Betty Jean Housley, 80, of Groom, died Sunday, June 4, 2017 in Sweetwater.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 9, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Groom, with Pastor Andy Dietz as officiant. Burial will be in Groom Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Betty was born December 16, 1936 in Groom to Eldred Neal and Wilma Ruth James. She married Johnny Brooks and they had four children. In 1982 she married Bill Housley. He died in 2014. She worked as Postmaster General for twenty-seven years, retiring from Sealy.
While in Groom, Betty volunteered at the food bank and for Meals-on-Wheels. She enjoyed socializing with her ladies club and supporting various sports teams.
Betty’s biggest smile was when her family was around. Her happy place was on her patio, watching people pass by and she cherished the memories of her lifelong friends in Groom. She also enjoyed her last few months living at Hoyt Place in Sweetwater and making new friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Eldred Wayne James; and sister-in-law Lynn James.
Betty is survived by her children, Debbie Anthony and husband, Steve of Roscoe, Deanna Holtkamp and husband, Jeff of Seguin, Donna Edwards of Bellville, Dale Brooks and wife Carolyn of Groom, and Todd Housley and Teri Housley of Austin; her brother, Edgar James and wife Marianne of Boerne; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
