Doris Jean (Hayes) Hobbs

September 12, 1940 — March 19, 2017

Doris Jean Hayes Hobbs 76, of Panhandle, went home to heaven on Sunday March 19, 2017.

Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Panhandle Church of Christ, 207 E 4th ST. Panhandle, TX 79068. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, Amarillo, TX 79110.

Doris was born September 12, 1940 to Grace & Burt Hayes at Vinson in Harmon County Oklahoma. She graduated from Vinson High School and married James Hobbs in 1958.  While living in Shiprock, New Mexico Doris worked as a substitute teacher and graduated from New Mexico State University, San Juan Branch in 1971.

Doris returned to Oklahoma in 1972 and was a homemaker and worked in the banking industry in Hollis and later in Oklahoma City.  In 1985 she moved to Texas and worked for Potter County.  In 1988 she began attending Amarillo College School of Nursing and graduated as a registered nurse in 1990.  She worked at BSA, and retired from Hemphill County Hospital in 2006.

Doris was a member of the Church of Christ in Panhandle and enjoyed spending her Wednesdays at 55+ and with her friends at Rule 62.

Survivors are her sons, Jim Hobbs and wife Michelle of Kelton, Texas and Gordon Hobbs and wife Leasha of Panhandle, Texas.

She was known as Granny Dot to her six grandchildren and three great grandchildren:   Jerod Hobbs and wife Kelli, Hartley and Weston of Ardmore: Lindsey Hobbs and fiance Chris Gauna of Frisco; Terry Hobbs and daughter Camryn of Panhandle: Alyssa and Cody Crawford of Panhandle; Kelly and Jason Smith of Amarillo and Brady Hobbs of Panhandle.

She is also survived by her sisters Florence Yoakam of Ohio,  Lucille Christian and husband Gail of Amarillo, Joan Stallings of Leedy Oklahoma and brother Wayne Hayes and wife Edna of Weatherford Oklahoma and sister-in-law Sandra Hayes of Panhandle.  She also loved and was loved by numerous nieces and nephews, especially Lane Hayes of Arlington Texas.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Joyce Putnam and brothers Calvin Hayes and Kenneth Hayes.
