Dorothy Olivia Schoppa

January 19, 1922 — January 7, 2018

Dorothy Flora Olivia Schoppa, 95, of Washington, MO, died on January 7, 2018.  Born on January 19, 1922 in Vernon, Texas, she was the eldest daughter of Ernest and Olivia Karcher. She married Robert Schoppa, whom she had come to know through church activities, on November 19, 1941; they were blessed with 73 years of marriage until his death on July 6, 2015.

A visitation will be held at 6:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, January 12, 2018 at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5005 I-40 with the Revs. Brian Hesse and Samuel Nafzger officiating.  Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Her life was guided by a strong Christian faith manifested through her focus on the church and its activities at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Plainview and Trinity Lutheran Church in Amarillo; she was always an enthusiastic alto in the choir and she served as church organist for 16 years.  She was, above all, a nurturing mother, a loving teacher, and an extraordinary example to her children and their families who survive: one son, Keith Schoppa and wife Beth of Towson, MD; three daughters, Janis Nafzger and husband Samuel of Washington, MO; Nancy Duensing of Denver, CO; Karen Hengst of Colorado Springs, CO; one daughter-in-law, Debbie Schoppa of Tampa, FL; and a sister, Jeannelle Hintze of St.Louis, MO.    Her joy lay in her family and serving them; she cherished her 17 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Randy Schoppa; a son-in-law, Earnest Hengst; and four sisters.

The family suggests memorials be made to The Lutheran Hour Radio Ministries, 660 Mason Ridge Center, St. Louis, MO, 63141 or to Trinity Lutheran Church in Amarillo.
