Frances Barnett

Frances Tucker Barnett, 90, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, April 26, 2017 in Keller, TX.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 29 at Southwest Church of Christ, 4515 Cornell, Amarillo, Texas 79109 with Mr. Brent Adams officiating. Private interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home 4100 S. Georgia St.

Frances was born May 26, 1926, in Muleshoe, Texas to Della and Arthur Tucker. As the oldest of seven children, she was very involved in helping to take care of her younger siblings. Caregiving continued as she raised her two sons, and loved her role of nurturing her granddaughters. Frances had a full career with AT&T/Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. where she was the first woman in the state of Texas to work in a man’s job as a line framer. Later in life, she enjoyed visiting all 50 states with her husband, and as a widow, she continued to travel all across the country with her friends. She especially loved her time with the Merry Widows, and was named Queen Mother of the Merry Widows’ Red Hat Society group.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Barnett; two sons, Don Barnett and Ken Barnett; brothers, Stanley Tucker and Thurman Tucker; sisters, Norene Barnett and Verna Watson; and her parents. She is survived by two brothers, J.O. Tucker and wife Linda of Rogers, AR and Jack Tucker and wife Rita of Decatur, TX; daughter-in-law, Brenda Sorrells and husband Larry of Keller, TX; granddaughters, Kendra Vaughn and husband Donny, and Monica Head and husband Aric all of Keller, TX, and Christina Barnett and Paige Clements of Amarillo, TX; and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to High Plains Children's Home of Amarillo, or a charity of your choice.
