George Alvin Beckner

November 11, 1927 — April 20, 2017

George Alvin Beckner, 89 of Amarillo died­­­ Thursday, April 20, 2017. He was born on 11-11-1927 in Clayton, New Mexico.

A Celebration of life will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 24, 2017 at Southwest Baptist Oasis Church with Pastor Bradley Speer officiating. Burial will be a Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

George was a member and Deacon at Southwest Baptist Church. He taught a Promise Keepers Bible study at Southwest as well as numerous other teaching positions at the church. George proudly served in the US Army after World War II.

He was involved in numerous ministries during his life time. Such as the Bill Glass Prison Ministries, Volunteer chaplaincy at Northwest Baptist Church and Clements Prison Unit. He and his wife Emma served on numerous missionary trips worldwide. He worked at the Amarillo fire department for several years, as well as the fire department of Yorba Linda, California. George and his wife founded Bible Heritage Christian School in 1981 and were very involved with the school till 2009.

George never met a stranger. He was a loving father, Papa, and friend. He will always be remembered as a person who loved everyone-- regardless of their status—and everyone who knew him loved him.

Because of his love for people he wanted everyone to know his Savior and Lord.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Raymond Beckner, Benjamin Beckner, Kenneth Beckner, and Arthur Beckner ; sisters Etta Mae, Willie Ethel, and Annie Louise. His first wife Shirley Beckner, and children D’Nell, and Bryan Beckner.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years Emma Lee Beckner; 1 brother Cecil “Lefty” Beckner, his 4 children Barry Beckner, Deanna Jordan, Raymond Rawls and Dennis Rawls; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to his granddaughter’s mission trip with The World Race. Donations may be made through melissajordan.theworldrace.org.
