Jo Veta Darnell

Jo Veta Darnell, age 83, of Amarillo died February 12, 2017.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 18th at 2:00 PM at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel.  The Rev. Danny Logan of Bell Avenue Baptist will officiate.  Burial will be at Llano Cemetery.   Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Jo Veta was born February 23, 1933 in Farwell, Texas to Jim and Nora Billingsley.  She graduated in 1952 from Farwell High School.    She married Bill Glenn in 1952 and Bill Woodson in 1967.  They preceded her in death.  She married Benny Darnell in 1993. He preceded her in death 2015.

Jo Veta worked many years in insurance starting in 1952 in Farwell and later in Amarillo at the Clay Dark Insurance Agency.   She and Bill Woodson worked for several years for the Jack B. Kelley Corporation in La Port, Texas.  She was a member of Bell Avenue Baptist Church.  Jo Veta was a member of the BSA Volunteer Program and a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha.  She was a loving aunt who delighted in the lives of her nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Brenda Christy and her wonderful and dedicated staff at the Comfort Care Home on Calumet for their loving care shown to Jo Veta.

The family will receive guests at the funeral home Friday evening, February 17th from 6 PM until 7 PM.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her three sisters and their husbands, Lucille and Alton Berry, Margaret and Crawford Ruthart, Zell and Jimmie Cain; a niece, Karen Dulaney and nephew, John Berry.

She is survived by her many nieces and nephews; Sharon Henry of Canyon, TX, Donna Ruthart of Houston, TX, Ronnie and Briget Cain of Amarillo, TX, Cyndi and Chris McFarlin of Amarillo, TX, Pat Okleberry, Philip Berry, Joy and Bruce Stewart all of LA Pine, OR, Richard Berry, Doris Jane and Greg Denmark of Portland, OR; and Jim Berry of Bend, OR.  She was also survived by the following members of the Benny Darnell family, Ray Darnell, Randy and Lisa Darnell all of Amarillo, and David and Christie Darnell of Houston, TX; and the Darnell grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105
