Rick M. Grubbs

April 28, 1953 — December 19, 2017

Richard Michael Grubbs, 64, of Amarillo, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 19, 2017.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Joe Andrajack officiating.

Rick was born in Dallas on April 28, 1953 to Roy and Sue Grubbs (Phillips). He started working with his father at the family flooring store at the age of 14. Flooring and remodeling not only became his profession but his passion. On July 18, 1976, he married Cindy Waters. In fact, he loved her so much that he married her again on September 14, 2006.

On July 6, 1978, September 7, 1980 and April 26, 1990 respectively, he welcomed his 3 children of whom he loved whole-heartedly.

Rick was best known for his big heart. Even though his family was often scattered and times between visits were sometimes long, the love for his family never wavered. He was a devoted dart player, and never missed league night or a tournament. He was always the first to sign up for karaoke, and even though his love for singing outweighed his ability, there was always a standing ovation. Rick spent his off time woodworking, building lego sets, playing games with the family, and trying to keep up his winning ratio on the 65,000+ solitaire games. He was a deeply spiritual man, and never hesitated to share his faith. Rick had an uncanny ability to talk to anyone and never knew a stranger. If you met him, you were instantaneously family and he was never reluctant to help anyone in need. His love for everyone around him was unparalleled. Rick will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Rick is preceded in death by his father, Roy Grubbs; step-mother, Joan; his mother, Sue Phillips; step-father, Cal; and sisters, Debie Grubbs ad Laura Pulido.

He is survived by his dear wife, Cindy Grubbs; 1 daughter, Emily McKinney; 2 sons, Brandon Grubbs and wife Aimee, and Travis Grubbs; 3 grandchildren, Jason, Julie and Jill Stephenson; 11 brothers and sisters, Linda Jumper, Carol Merrick, JC Campbell, Susan Thivierge, Steve Phillips, Terrie Smith and husband David, Pamela Howard, Ronny Grubbs and wife Nancy, Jimmy Don Grubbs, Roy Alan Grubbs and David Grubbs; ex-wife, Patti Taylor; 26 nieces and nephews and many more great nieces, nephews and friends.

The family suggests memorials be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 6900 Hillside Rd., Amarillo, Texas 79109.
