Shirley Nixon

November 4, 1929 — May 25, 2017

Shirley Nixon, 87 of Amarillo died Thursday, May 25, 2017.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 27, 2017 in Brentwood Chapel, Schooler Funeral Home with Pastor Jon Watson officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

Shirley was born November 4, 1929 in Willow, OK to Joseph and Phyllis Denton. To say that she was a homemaker would be an understatement; Shirley was a caregiver. She devoted herself to the care of her parents, along with her siblings; to her children and grandchildren from whom she derived much joy. She will be remembered for her love and generosity towards family and friends alike.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Joe Edward Smith; a sister Betty Jo Parsons; a grandson, Bobby Joe Hendrickson Jr.; and a great grandson, Nehemiah Reyna.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Legacy Rehabilitation and Living Center and to the Amarillo Hospice of the Plains; but especially to Brenda Shields, her RN, and her caregivers Heather Nutter and Leigh Diehl, “we never saw them but we are convinced they have the wings of angels!”

Shirley is survived by her two daughters, Donna Hendrickson and Sherry Phillips and her husband Joe all of Amarillo; two sisters, Karen Parnell of Pampa, TX and Sandra Travis of Amarillo; a brother, Donald Ray Denton and his wife Liz of Carmichael, California; and seven grandchildren; and twenty one great grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Amarillo Hospice of the Plains, 508 N Taylor St, Amarillo, TX 79107
