Anna Marie Detten Wink, age 103, left her earthly home and traveled to her heavenly destination on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

The Rosary will be said on Wednesday, October 7, at 6:30 p.m., at St. Francis Catholic Church, located a 5005 Klinke Rd., Amarillo, 79108, with Deacon Lewis Ortho officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 8, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Francis Catholic Church, with Father John Dalton celebrating her life. Burial will follow at the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, with arrangements by Schooler Funeral Directors of Amarillo.

Anna Marie was born on August 12, 1923, to Clara Adella Metcalf and Leo Francis Detten, at home in what was known at the time as the McGovern place. At the age of two and a half years, the family moved to what became the Leo Detten family farm nine miles from Panhandle in Carson County. Named for her two grandmothers, she was the granddaughter of Carson County pioneers, Maria Josephine (Baldner) and W.C. Metcalf, and Anna Teresa (Husemann) and Henry George Detten. The first of 11 children, she was big sister to Blanche Koetting, Alice Kuehler, Gladys Looten, Donald, Floyd, Ralph, Rosemary Tuggle, Irene Lewis, Lawrence and Paul.

Her elementary school years were spent at Pleasant Plains, then she attended Panhandle High School, graduating in the class of 1940. She attended West Texas State College in Canyon, where she studied accounting. Learning from her parents to never waste time, she worked for several families in and around Panhandle. Using her accounting knowledge, she kept immaculate books for the farm throughout her adult life.

On June 1, 1944, she married the love of her life, Clarence Frank Wink. The couple made their home on the Wink homestead in eastern Potter County. Established in 1909, their lifetime home continues to operate as Wink Farms. Anna Marie and Clarence lived on the farm for 65 years until his death on September 15, 2009. She continued to live an active life on the farm until she moved to Heritage Convalescent Center in December of 2022. They were the proud parents of Leo James, Doris Ellen, Frank Michael, Lois Ann and Lloyd Thomas.

Anna Marie was a living example of a Christian, demonstrating servitude and spirit, and an example of doing one’s best is always honorable. A lifetime member of St. Francis Catholic Church, she was an active member in the prayer life as well as the work life within the parish. She was a member of the Altar Society and did various Church activities including teaching CCF classes and laundering the Altar linens for more than 40 years. She contributed to the writing of church history, “A Harvest of Memories”, as well as family histories and stories. She was a 4-H leader and was named St. Francis Altar Society Woman of the Year. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she baked bread for the Church’s Annual Sausage Dinner.

Her favorite saying was, “This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad.” She could see the light in the most dismal of circumstances and often told her family, “Use it or lose it!” Describing Anna Marie, words include courageous, faithful, wise council, good humor, kindness, trustworthy, grateful and appreciative. She was a blessing to all who called her daughter, sister, friend, Mother, Mom, Mother-in-Law, Grandma or Dee. Anna Maria always had something nice to say about everyone. When challenged that she would have something nice to say about the Devil, her response was “Well, he is a very hard worker!”

She is preceded in death by her parents and Clarence; and her siblings, Blanche, Gladys, Donald, Floyd, Ralph, Rosemary and Laurence.

Anna Marie is survived by her children, Leo and wife Audrey of Espanola, New Mexico, Doris and husband Johnny Homer of Groom, Texas, Frank and wife Shaun of Panhandle, Texas, Lois and husband Johnny Husmann of Stratford, Texas, and Lloyd and wife Terry of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren, Kevin Wink and wife Christine, Erin Wink, Mike Wink and wife Stephanie, Jimmy Wink and wife Michele, Heather and husband Ken Hormel, Hollie and husband Pete Cook, Brian Husmann, Stephen Husmann and wife Shamera, Kayla Wink and fiancé Eli Morin, and Kyle Wink and wife Jessica; 27 great-grandchildren, Tara Wink, Brandon Jones, Brittany McAlister, Nathaniel McAlister, Nicholas Wink, Christian Wink, Alaska Williams, Megan Williams, Dustin Williams, Taylor Wink, Langdon Wink, Nicholas Hormel, Carson Hormel, Tyler Hormel, Olivia Cook, Adian Cook, Louis Cook, Agnes Cook, Mary Rose Cook, Lucy Cook, Clarence Cook, Thomas Cook, Makenna Husmann, Hayden Husmann, Bailey Husmann and Parker Wink; six great-great-grandchildren, Grayson Jones, Allie Jones, August McAlister, Winter McAlister, Collins Joyce Hormel and Evelyn Rae Husmann; her siblings, Alice Kuehler of Groom, Irene Lewis of Sandpoint, Idaho, and Paul Detten and wife Evelyn of Panhandle; and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.

Our mother, Anna Marie, loved your visits, and calls, as well as the many card games! We are ever grateful for your thoughtful kindnesses and time. The family extends a humble thank you to the Heritage Convalescent Center staff, especially Julie, Dana, Cory, Sue, Ruth, Ann, Stacey, Josh, Rachel, Truman, Jennifer, Carol and Erma, for your care and love of our mother. A huge thank you and hug to Mr. Francis for sharing his friendship with Mother.
