Arlene Eby Wagner

August 15, 1938 — February 10, 2021

Arlene Eby Wagner, 82, of Amarillo went to meet her Savior on February 10, 2021.

Memorial mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 22, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral, 1200 Washington. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

Arlene was born on August 15, 1938 to Harry Walter Eby and Opal Ann Carpenter Eby in Grafton, West Virginia. She attended schools in Fairmont until her parents died and she moved to El Paso, Texas during her senior year. On her way back to the beautiful hills of West Virginia she came to Amarillo and met the love of her life, Clyde Wagner. They were married September 10, 1958 at St. Mary’s Church in Amarillo, now St. Mary’s Cathedral. Two children were born of this marriage, Clyde (Eddy) Edward Wagner, Jr. and Holly Ann Wagner Hill. Clyde was involved in a life changing incident in 1972 that confined him to a wheelchair for the last 42 years of his life. Arlene was his caretaker, and together they raised the children. She worked for Mesa for twenty-two years as an oil and gas accountant, retiring in October, 1997. After retiring for nine months, she accepted a job as an accountant for St. Mary’s and was there for eighteen years, retiring in June, 2015. Arlene was an original member of ACTS (Adoration, Community, Theology, Service) serving for ten years as the financial person for the group. She met many friends over the years and enjoyed keeping in touch with them.  In their early marriage she and Clyde enjoyed drag racing, speed bowl races, bowling and spending time with their group of friends.  After Clyde’s disability they settled down to more mundane activities.

Arlene enjoyed reading mystery novels, cross word and jig saw puzzles, any game show and best of all, time with her grandchildren whenever possible. She also enjoyed spending many hours with her faithful companion, Siddammitt, her cat.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Holly, her husband Clyde, and two sisters, Fern and Helen.

She is survived by her son Eddy and his wife Debra and their children Ford, Gabriel, Delaney and Anderson. Surviving also is her son-in-law Norman Hill and children Allison, Erika and Emily; and a pseudo son Joe Carlin and wife Joann and son Thomas.

Arlene was devoted to her Catholic faith and was most grateful to her friends and family who held her up during the difficult times of her live.  Arlene was an orphan longing for a family to love and God gave her Clyde and his extensive family. Forever grateful.
