May 15, 1951 — January 16, 2026

Amarillo

Arturo Reyes Velasquez, age 74, of Amarillo, passed away on January 16, 2026.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 9 am to 6 pm at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. Rosary will begin at 6 pm. A liturgical funeral service will be held in the funeral home’s Brentwood Chapel on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 2 pm with Reverend Haider Quintero of St Laurence Catholic Church presiding.

Arturo was born on May 15, 1951, in Mexico, to Jesus and Maria Santos Reyes Velasquez. He lived in Dimmitt and Grand Prairie before moving to Amarillo in 1981, and on May 21, 2011, he married Silvia Morales. Arturo and Silvia shared fourteen years of love and companionship, creating many cherished memories with their friends and family.

A welder by trade for Peerless in Dallas before transitioning to the open road, Arturo spent the majority of his career as a truck driver for Baldwin Trucking, Winkles and Panhandle Express, until his retirement in 2016. Fondly known to his friends and co-workers as “El Troquero Sincero,” Arturo was a man of integrity and hard work.

While he was a kindhearted man who could strike up a conversation with anyone, Arturo was also deeply private, reserving his fullest self for his family and closest friends. He had a great passion for music and was the self-proclaimed “best dancer in the world.” In his quiet time, he enjoyed watching old black-and-white movies and his favorite Spanish novelas.

On game days, he could always be found cheering for his beloved Dallas Cowboys. Arturo was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Yolanda Velasquez; his son, Mark Anthony Velasquez; and his son-in-law, Javier Hernandez.

He is survived by his wife, Silvia; four daughters, Bridgett Velasquez (Arturo Sanchez) of Ft. Worth, Maria Velasquez, Vanessa Velasquez (Jose Chavez), and Alexandra Velasquez, all of Amarillo; five sons, Arthur Velasquez Jr. (Christy) of Amarillo, Mario Velasquez (Veronica) of Ft. Worth, Vicente Velasquez, Nicholas Velasquez (Tesla), and David Ramos, all of Amarillo. He also leaves behind two sisters, Maria Lopez (Andres) of Dimmitt and Martha Correa (Salvador) of Chicago; three brothers, Hector Velasquez (Gloria) of Amarillo, Armando Velasquez (Norma) of Dimmitt, and Oscar Velasquez (Blanca) of Amarillo; as well as 43 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
