Beverly Gayle Wilkerson, age 86, of Amarillo, passed from this life on October 13, 2024.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Memory Gardens Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM at South Georgia Baptist Church, with Rev. Craig Holcomb officiating.
Beverly was born in Toledo, Ohio, to her parents, Archie and Irene Carr Crowell, on September 21, 1938. Beverly moved often with her family in her youth, and at times, she lived with other family members. When she moved to Canadian, Texas to live with her beloved grandmother, she attended and graduated from Canadian High School on September 8, 1951, later meeting the love of her life, Buddy Wilkerson. They soon married in Clovis, New Mexico, with their good friends, Judy and Dobber Lemons, as witnesses. The couple were married for sixty-three years at the time of his death in 2020. . Beverly and Buddy enjoyed a simple life of devotion to family, friends, and their church. They were devoted members of Bell Avenue Baptist Church for many years before joining South Georgia Baptist Church. Beverly had a beautiful Soprano voice and always sang in the church choir, as well as with the Singing Women of Texas in later years.
A very bright and intelligent woman, Beverly tended to focus her energy and creativity on her family’s growth and well-being before her own. A gifted artist, Beverly was always creating, whether knitting, sewing, crocheting, or oil painting. Many of her loved ones have received gifts of homemade sweaters, quilts, Christmas stockings, or Afghans. She loved sharing her talents with others. To add to her many talents, she was an incredible cook with a servant’s heart.
An avid gardener Beverly enjoyed nature and especially family camping trips. She was involved in extensive genealogical work, and many times, she and Buddy would jump in the camper and go explore cemeteries to do research. A voracious reader, she never tired of learning and was constantly challenging herself and those around her to better themselves intellectually and spiritually. Once, Beverly bought a set of encyclopedias from a door-to-door salesman. Whenever her children would ask her questions, she would say, “Look it Up.” Although Beverly was shy and reserved, those who knew her well knew her penchant to laugh at inappropriate humor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Gary Crowell; sister, Dana Crowell Lockwood; husband, Buddy; and two grandchildren, Michael and Amanda Wilkerson.
Beverly is survived by her daughter, Robin Steele of Santa Fe, New Mexico; her sons, Wesley Wilkerson of Las Vegas, Nevada, Steve Wilkerson and husband Kevin Corstange of Beckett, Massachusetts; Darin Wilkerson and wife Deanna of Canyon and Clay Wilkerson and wife Betsy of Katy; her grandchildren, Lauren Steele, Ryan Steele, Luke Wilkerson, Rory Wilkerson, Curtis and wife Kenzie Wilkerson and Ruby Green and husband Brett; and her great-grandchildren, Alex, Aiden and Ellarose, and lifelong friends Judy Wooten and Larry and Ginger Jackson.
