Blake Lewis Riggs, 65, passed away peacefully at home in Amarillo on April 26, 2026. Born in Pueblo, Colorado, on August 17, 1960, Blake’s early years were defined by what the neighborhood kids called "life on the prairie"— a time of climbing fences, hunting lizards, and just the right amount of mischief. A natural leader, he loved playing football, serving (of course) as the quarterback.
Viewing will be held at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, on Thursday, April 30,2026, from 9 am to 11 am. A graveside service will be held the same day at Llano Cemetery at 1 pm wit Deacon Mark White of St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church presiding.
Though he was a grandson by title, Blake was raised with the loving guidance of his grandparents, Margaret and Lewis Reynolds. Growing up, he was essentially a third sibling to his aunt Suzy Stahl and uncle Rod Reynolds. Despite being ten years their junior, Blake was forever in tow, accompanying them on legendary adventures. These included being tossed off the second story of a new construction home into the arms of the one below (one of Suzy’s favorite stories) and a skiing trip that resulted in a leg broken (that everyone got in trouble for).
When the family moved to El Paso, the adventures continued. By age 14, Blake was famously known for chauffeuring his friends to Juarez in his Grandfather Lewis’s Mercedes. He spent those years exploring the lower valley and the Rio Grande, forging connections that would last a lifetime.
Blake moved to Amarillo during his junior year of high school. While his football days ended there, his professional drive began; by age 18, he was already a licensed Realtor. Blake’s career was diverse and marked by dedicated service. He spent many years in Telecommunications Sales and later served at the Clements Unit in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant.
Eventually, Blake returned to his true professional passion: Real Estate. Partnering with his wife, Lydia, he found deep fulfillment in the industry. He loved the "hunt" for the perfect property, but nothing compared to the look on his clients' faces when they walked into the house that would become their home.
Blake met Lydia in Albuquerque in 1986. They married in Amarillo in 1988, spending 38 years building a life of partnership and love. Of all his titles, none meant more to him than "Father." His son, Michael, was his greatest gift, and Blake carried a profound sense of pride and joy in every one of Michael’s milestones.
Blake is survived by his wife, Lydia; his son, Michael Riggs; his devoted sister, Kristin Neeley, and her children Lindsey, Brianna, and Andrew; his uncle Rod Reynolds and wife Mary. He is also survived by his cousin Patrick Stahl, wife Lacy, and their sons Fisher, Sullivan, and Murphy; his uncle Rick Stahl, Charlotte Gaither and many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Margaret and Lewis Reynolds; aunt, Suzanne Stahl; his cousin, Jones Baker Stahl; and his mother, Andrea Reynolds.
Blake was deeply loved, and his presence and laughter—full of stories and heart—will be missed by all who knew him.
