Carolyn "Dixie" Marlene McCaleb

Carolyn “Dixie” Marlene McCaleb, age 84, of Amarillo died August 18, 2021 at home in Amarillo, Texas after battling numerous health problems.

Family will receive friends Friday, August 20, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside service will be at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, August 21, 2021 in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Dixie was born July 24, 1937 in Mountain Park, OK to John and Merwyn Heien. She grew up with her brother, Bill, and sister, Bonnie. She graduated Amarillo High School in 1955 and attended Amarillo College. Dixie worked as a flight attendant for Braniff Airlines.

She married Dr. Morgan McCaleb on October 23, 1965. They were happily married for 54 years. They had two amazing children, Caroline and Jon. She became a grandma to five grandchildren that she loved with every ounce of her heart – Amber, Sara, Esther, Phoebe, and Jeremiah.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and husband, Dr. Morgan H. McCaleb.

Dixie is survived by daughter, Caroline Hands D.D.S. and husband, Victor Hands M.D.; son, Jon McCaleb M.D. and wife Leslie; brother, Bill Heien and wife, Jerolyn; sister in laws, Judy Matney of Amarillo and Sharon Bunny of Austin; and five grandchildren.
