Amarillo

Cheri McNabb Mooring age 74 of Amarillo, gained her heavenly wings on December 6, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Cheri was born in Amarillo, Texas, on April 20, 1951, to James and Jo Cogdill. Cheri’s father James, passed away in 1956. Jo remarried to Millard McNabb of Amarillo in June of 1958 and Millard adopted Cheri, and her sisters Debbie and Patti. From a young age she was deeply involved in her church, Avondale Baptist, where her faith first took root and would continue to guide her throughout her life.

She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1969. Cheri and Robert grew up together, and in 1968 they began dating. Robert knew almost immediately that Cheri was the one. They were married on February 12, 1971, at Avondale Baptist Church in Amarillo, beginning a partnership defined by unwavering love, devotion, and shared ministry.

Cheri attended West Texas State University, earning a degree in education. She carried a lifelong passion for teaching and felt called to invest in the lives of children. After graduating, she taught at Puckett Elementary for five years before choosing to stay home and raise her children. When they were grown, Cheri returned to the classroom at Alice Landergin Elementary, where she continued to pour her heart into her students until her retirement.

Even in retirement, Cheri could not imagine a life without serving children. She taught Pre-K at Paramount Baptist Church and continued to minister to young people in countless ways. From 2005 to 2019, Paramount Baptist sponsored her work in an apartment ministry dedicated to supporting disadvantaged youth—an effort that became one of the great missions of her life.

Robert remained her constant source of strength and encouragement, and together they made a powerful team in ministry. Outside of church and education, they loved attending WT football and basketball games. Cheri found joy in spending time with her family. She loved having her entire family together for dinners, birthdays, playing cards, and especially Christmas. She had a great bond with her daughter Macey; they were best friends through their journey together. She enjoyed watching her sons Tyson and Clint play in golf tournaments. Nothing brought her more joy than investing time, love, and guidance into her three children.

Cheri was the epitome of a devoted wife and mother. Her passion for children was a legacy she passed down to her grandchildren, encouraging them to serve alongside her in the apartment ministry. Throughout her life, Cheri planted countless seeds of faith, hope, and love in the hearts of children and families. Her influence will continue to grow for generations.

Cheri’s life was defined by compassion, faithfulness, and service. All who were blessed to know her will remember her gentle spirit, her generous heart, and her unwavering commitment to loving others the way Christ loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Debbie Trombley.

Cheri is survived by her husband Robert; her two sons, Tyson Mooring and wife Erica, Clinton Mooring and wife Holley; her daughter, Macey Becerra: two sisters, Sandy Wall and Patti Romero and husband Carl; and her four grandchildren, Harper, Nixen, and James Becerra, and Karly Mooring.
