Christopher Joseph “C.J” Berryman, age 41 died on April 14, 2026, in Amarillo.

A vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, April 17, 2026, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 S Coulter. The funeral mass will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. The celebrant will be Rev. John Valdez.

C.J. was born on September 26, 1984, in Hereford, Texas, to his parents, Mark Wade and Kelly La’nee Lindsey Berryman. A proud graduate of Hereford High School, Class of 2003, he answered a call to serve immediately after graduation, enlisting in the United States Air Force. For six years, he served his country with honor.

Following his military service, C.J. returned home to pursue his education at West Texas A&M University, where he earned a degree in Mass Communications. It was there that he began to channel his lifelong love of sports into a profession, blending his passion with a natural talent for storytelling. He went on to build a career in sports writing and broadcasting, sharing the games he loved with others through his unique voice and perspective.

From an early age, C.J. was defined by his competitive spirit. If there was a ball involved, he was all in. Whether it was football, baseball, or just a friendly game, he approached everything with intensity, heart, and a drive to win that never faded.

C.J.’s career took him through several news publications, including The Hereford Brand, The Gatesville Messenger, and most recently the Killeen Daily Herald, before he returned to Amarillo to be closer to family. He also co-hosted a podcast, “The Ranger Report,” where he shared his deep knowledge and enthusiasm for the Texas Rangers with fellow fans.

That same competitive edge that fueled his love of sports was present in every part of his life. It began in childhood, often playing out in spirited rivalries with his sister and playful sparring with his mother. C.J. was never one to shy away from a challenge—especially if it meant proving a point. In fact, he had a well-known tendency to do the exact opposite of what his mother suggested, a trait that, while occasionally testing patience, was simply part of his independent and determined nature.

To know C.J. was to know someone who lived boldly, loved deeply, and never did anything halfway. He will be deeply missed, but his voice, his laughter, and his larger-than-life spirit will continue to echo in the lives of those who loved him.

He was preceded in death y his grandparents, Sandy Nunnally, Richard Berryman, Alice Berryman and Vera Berryman.

C.J. is survived by his parents, Mark and Kelly Berryman; his sister Amber Wilson and husband Steven; by a child, Trey Roger Turner; grandparents, Dale and Debbie Lindsey; his nieces, Kylee and Tynslee; and a multitude of loving family members and cherished friends.
