Darla was born in Shamrock, Texas in the family home to Floyd Martin and Sallie Mae (Staggs) Darling. She graduated from Childress High School. Darla was a caring and nurturing person. She ran her own in home daycare center where she cared for many children throughout her life.
Darla loved horses. She found great joy being in their presence and taking a ride around the land. When she needed something with a little more kick, she would jump on a dirt bike at the river with Paul and friends. Darla also enjoyed dancing. Whether it was boogying to the beat at a disco, or swing dancing at the Moon Palace with Paul, Darla just enjoyed moving with the music.
Darla was also incredibly artistic. She would sit behind her canvas and allow her brush to create beautiful scenes. Most of them were given to her family, while others were sold or placed in a few local exhibitions. While she painted mostly for her own pleasure, she did take on a few commissioned pieces as well. Everyone really enjoyed her work.
All of this failed in comparison to her most prized possession, her beloved family. She loved and adored each of them. Her dedication to each of them on an individual and as a group was unparalleled. Darla would make sure they were attended to and never went without.
Darla is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Wilbur. Those left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Cindy Link, Tambra Terbush and Scott, Sabrina Dean and Gary, and Desiree Walker and Jason, sons, Shannon Fowler and Lance Fowler, sister, Sally Gaskamp, brother, Don Darling and Linda; twelve grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren, as well as many extended family and cherished friends.
