David Cobb

December 22, 1954 — June 25, 2025

Amarillo

David Howard Cobb, lifelong resident of Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on June 24, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, David lived a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering kindness.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St., Amarillo, Texas 79110. Funeral Services will be at Schooler Funeral home on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 10:00 am.

Born on December 22, 1954, David graduated from Amarillo High School in 1973, where he proudly served as quarterback for the football team. He went on to attend Texas Tech University and later built a successful career that spanned Budweiser, Western Union, and ultimately Owens Corning, where he retired in 2000. In retirement, David devoted his time to his family and his passion for investing and managing trusts.

In 1986, David met the love of his life, Donna Cobb. Their bond was extraordinary—filled with humor, warmth, and devotion. They married in 2000 and spent 39 wonderful years together. David cared deeply for Donna, selflessly tending to her every need with joy and affection.

David was a wonderful father. He cared deeply about his children’s successes, cheering them on in every moment. No matter the occasion, he was always rooting from the sidelines or celebrating right beside them. With David, his children always felt safe, seen, and unconditionally loved. Just knowing he was in their corner made everything feel possible.

David also had a deep passion for music, which stirred his soul and brought him profound joy. He especially loved traveling with lifelong friends to attend live concerts, often at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. His stories of these musical adventures were so vivid, you felt as if you'd been there with him. A true original, David never met a stranger—his gift for conversation and his sincere interest in others made everyone feel welcome and valued.

He had a soft spot for animals, especially his two beloved dogs, Evelyn and Biscuit. A lifelong sports enthusiast, David didn’t root for just one team—he simply loved a good, close game, no matter who was playing.

David was preceded in death by his parents, W.H. Cobb and Mary Ellen Cobb, and his sister, Sally Croft.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Donna Cobb of Amarillo; his son, Matt Cobb of Amarillo; his daughter, Angela Cobb Corpening and her husband Peter Ritchie of Amarillo; his step-children: James Stovall and wife Karen of Amarillo; Travis Bates and wife Michele of Amarillo; Doug Bates and wife Jamie of Blanchard, OK; and Brenda Marcum and husband Darren of Amarillo. David was a loving grandfather to Jack Corpening, Ela Corpening, Mary Ellen Cobb, and a cherished group of step-grandchildren.

David’s presence was larger than life, his heart open to all. His memory will be treasured and carried forward by all who had the blessing to know and love him.
