David Lee "Dave" Cox, 83, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on July 30, 2026. 

Memorial services will be Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 2.00 P.M. in Schooler Funeral Home, Brontwood Chapel with Pastor Lennie McCay of Washington Avenue Christian Church officiating.

Dave was born in Kansas City, Kansas on August 27, 1942, to Frances and Thomas Cox. He graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1961. He married Marcia in 1966, and they were married for 40 years until her death from cancer in 2007. During those years, Dave worked as a clerk for the railroad, as a policeman, as an insurance man and adjuster, in his own family screen-printing business and manager of another screen-printing business, as a dealer in a casino, and as a notary for real estate signings. He loved softball and played on a mixed team or several years. He also coached softball teams for his wife, daughter, and son's teams.

In 2009, Dave decided to move to Amarillo, Texas because he had met a lady there named Sandy Duncan, and he lived there for the rest of his life. While there, he secured part-time jobs for real estate signings and as a claims adjuster. Dave had been an avid camper and fisherman for many years, so he introduced Sandy to camping and fishing, and they later joined Caprock Cruisers, a camping club, where they had a lot of fun and many good times traveling extensively throughout Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and Oklahoma and to see his relatives in the Kansas City, Missouri area. He also joined a harmonica club in Amarillo that he enjoyed immensely and where he made many friends. He was a passionate KC Chiefs (Patrick Mahones) fan and enthusiastically watched every game he could.

Survivors include best friend Sandy Duncan; daughter Devre Lester; son Eric Cox and wife Karla; granddaughters Samantha and Lauren Lester; great-grandson Connor Lester; cousin Doug Moore and several other cousins; Uncle Lester; and his faithful neighbor, Dennis Wills.
