David Lynn Waldrop, age 68, passed away on October 12, 2024, in Amarillo, TX. Born on December 21, 1955, in Fort Worth, Texas, he was the second of four children born to Joe and Thelma Waldrop née Dearmore.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 4:00 pm at Oasis Southwest Baptist Church, 8201 Canyon Dr, Amarillo, TX 79110.
David graduated from Charles H. Milby High School in Houston, Texas, and furthered his education at Houston Community College and East Texas Baptist University, majoring in Music and Business.
David married Virginia aka Ginny Zuber in 1980 and made Amarillo, TX his home. Together they welcomed their daughter Amber Dannette and son Aaron David into this world. Creating a home and community around them.
He dedicated over 40 years to the automobile industry, where he thrived in sales and management. His passion for sales ignited at the young age of nine when he sold Grit newspapers. His final professional contribution was to escort and lead oversized semi-truck loads across our country safely.
In addition to his professional endeavors, David, having come from a long line of men of God, was a man of faith who served as Associate Pastor of Pavillard Missionary Baptist Church for 17 years. His commitment to the church extended beyond preaching; he volunteered as Youth Director, Music Director, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, touching many lives in his community. For the last 25 years of his life, David called Oasis Southwest Baptist Church home. As one of the early cameramen for their church services, David can often be heard singing along throughout the videos. He was active in the church community, participating in men’s retreats, Bible studies, praise and worship thru music, and assisting and supporting Awana, a children’s ministry. David truly had a servant’s heart.
Musically talented, David played piano and guitar, not only writing music to song writer’s lyrics for church, but often bringing the guitar to reunions and leading all the cousins in song. He spent countless hours coaching his kids and grandkids in their athletic endeavors, running on the trails at Palo Duro Canyon State Park and of course watching and cheering his beloved Dallas Cowboys.
David married Angelina aka Angel Grider in 2019, spending his final years backseat driving, fussing and laughing. Together, shortly after having lost Buddy, his Shih Tzu of 17 years, they rescued Maynard, a black German Shepherd mix who was more hyper than David and Angel combined, Dexter a mouthy Piebald Feline escape artist and his beloved Cinnamon aka Cinny, his Australian Kelpie who would ride shotgun endless miles, herding the oversize semi-truck loads along beside him. Shrek, the regal longhair patriarch who thought he was feline royalty, simply tolerated him, and allowed David to live in his world.
David is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lynn Greenwalt. He is survived by his wife, Angel; his brothers, George Waldrop of Mustang, OK and Richard Waldrop of Pittsburg, TX; his daughter and son in law, Amber & Jonathan Ethridge of Amarillo, TX; his son and daughter in law Aaron & Kristen Waldrop of Amarillo, TX; and his cherished grandchildren, Cloie, James, Michaela and Nathaniel.
David had a deep appreciation for God, Family and Friends. His outgoing personality, generous heart, and adventurous spirit will be profoundly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
So you have pain now; but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. — JOHN 16:22
