Diane (Wright) Routt

February 15, 1940 — April 5, 2023

Diane Wright Routt passed away peacefully on April 5th , 2023. She was born on February 15 th , 1940, to Frank and Jewel Wright. She was raised in Fritch, Texas, where she attended school. Diane had three sisters.  Infant Frankie Jan (deceased), Lynn Kuykendall of North Carolina, Susan Key Shelly, and husband Greg Shelly of Snyder, Texas.

Diane had five children. A stillborn infant daughter Tammy Lee Gilbert, son Kirk and wife Joy Gilbert of Claude, Texas, son Kent and wife Kimberly Gilbert of Amarillo, Texas, son David and wife Paula of Bloomfield, NM, and a daughter Joann Routt Jones of Florida.  She had three Grandson’s Jeff Gilbert of Claude, Texas; Chris and his wife Kaylyn Gilbert of Levelland, Texas, a Grandson, Bradley Gilbert (deceased) of Claude, Texas. She had two granddaughter’s Bradyn and Riley Gilbert of Amarillo, Texas. Two Great Granddaughter’s Kyler Gilbert of Claude, Texas, and Ella Gilbert of Levelland, Texas, and one Great Grandson, Grant Gilbert, of Levelland, Texas. Diane had two nephews, Brett Kime (deceased), Todd and wife Robin Kuykendall of Clovis, NM, and two nieces Jennifer Kime (deceased), and Heather and husband Matt Jenkins of North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Wright, mother Jewel Wright; a baby sister Frankie Jan; infant daughter Tammy Lee, a grandson Bradley Gilbert; a niece Jennifer Kime; a nephew Brett Kime; and her husband, James Routt of Bloomfield, NM. Diane also had many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren from her husband’s side of the family.

Diane was a homemaker most of her life with 2-3 other jobs during the years, one of which was at a bank as a safety deposit clerk and another for a collection agency in Amarillo.  She loved animals, and they loved her. Her last dog's name was Cole.  He was a dachshund.  Cole could do no wrong.  She cooked Cole eggs for breakfast every morning and chicken or hamburger meat for lunch and dinner. She absolutely adored this breed of dogs. She had several over the course of her life. While she was living with her son Kirk and her daughter-in-law Joy, they let Diane “borrow” their little Dachshund named Maggie.  Maggie snuggled up with Diane on the couch underneath her heated blanket for many hours a day for several months.  Maggie misses her terribly. Maggie crawls under the fence every day and is in the front yard waiting for us to get home.  But I really think she is watching for Diane to come home.

Diane also enjoyed crocheting Afghans for family members and loved to be in the kitchen cooking all kinds of recipes. Diane was always an excellent cook.  She also loved to bake.

Diane loved music. She collected many CDs over the years.  Kirk and Joy had an Alexa on the table where she sat.  They tried to teach Diane how to use the Alexa so she could listen to whatever song she wanted to.  One day Joy heard Diane talking to Alexa.  Diane was so polite she wouldn’t yell at her to turn the music down, but she said ma’am, really loud.  “Ma’am, could you please turn it down?

Diane’s life was filled with sacrifice for her sons, and she will be missed terribly.
