Dolores "Dee" (Oliphint) Waugh

March 4, 1933 — June 21, 2023

Amarillo

Dolores “Dee” Waugh, 90, of Amarillo passed on June 21, 2023.

The family will receive guests at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, on Friday, June 23, 2023 from 5 PM to 7 PM. A celebration of Dee’s life will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 10 AM in the funeral home’s Brentwood Chapel with Dr. Murray Gossett of First Presbyterian presiding. Interment will be private.

Dee was born March 4, 1933 in Ada, Oklahoma to W.A. and Audrey (Smith) Oliphint. The family relocated to Amarillo, Texas and Dee would graduate from the original Amarillo High School. She was very active in Beta Sigma Phi and was even honored as Woman of the Year. On October 23, 1976, she and Harry would unite two families through their marriage. Dee was a devoted member of Paramount Baptist Church where she made sure her children learned of God and Jesus until she moved the family to New Mexico.

Dee loved to entertain in the family home. When Harry’s coworkers were in town from Washington D. C., she would host amazing dinner parties where she served cocktails and Hors D’oeuvres. No one came to the Waugh home and left hungry. She also hosted an incredibly elegant 60th birthday party for herself. Aside from hosting social gatherings in her home, Dee found great pleasure in her travels. In her generous giving spirit, she and Harry sent the children to Disneyland, venturing to New York City and all the way to Israel, and even brought Keely and a friend on her honeymoon to Hawaii. She paid for her children to take trips with her and without her, even sending Keely and Mark on an Alaskan Cruise for their anniversary.

Her generosity did not end with these travels. Dee also helped make sure her grandchildren attended college to further their own education. She was ever so supportive of her daughter Keely no matter what she was doing. Dee would make sure to be there if Keely was on the football field or at pep rallies cheering. Dee’s generosity and kindness truly knew no bounds. She was a Home Maker by trade. Taking care of the family was her self-appointed job. She did work for Diamond Shamrock for some time, and even served as the Assistant Store Manager for Blackburn Brothers.

Dee is preceded in death by her husband Harry, son Jamie, her parents and her brother Don. Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter Keely O’Neal and husband Mark, son Ken Waugh and wife Eileen, grandchildren Preston O’Neal and wife Adriana, Mallory O’Neal, Leigha Waugh, and Kaleigh Thompson and husband Sean; her great-grandchildren Levon O’Neal and Carson Thompson, and many other loving family and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in honor of Dee Waugh to BSA Hospice Care of the Southwest, 5211 SW 9th Ave STE 100, Amarillo, Texas 79106.
