Dorothy “Granny Dot” Eagle, age 89, of Amarillo, entered the gates of Heaven on November 12, 2023 in Amarillo.
Dorothy left specific instructions to her family regarding funeral services, and the family will privately abide by her wishes so that they do not get “in trouble!”
Dorothy was born March 17, 1934, in Union County, New Mexico, just outside of Clayton, to her parents, Jerry Enoch and Ruby Pearl Barton. She graduated from Clayton High School and was very proud to be the only child in her family to graduate.
Dorothy was tough out of necessity; she raised her children on her own and taught, no, demanded, that they learn the importance of hard work and family.
She was born into a tough generation, loved hard, prayed hard, and was honest. Dorothy spoke her mind with zero filter, and you could go somewhere else if your feelings got hurt! She may even have been asked to leave a few places, but that was fine. She stood solid on her beliefs.
She made the best chili ever eaten. Correct chili, no beans, just meat and HOT! If anyone said anything about how hot, she gave them a "shut up and eat it, you damn sissy, it's not even hot!”
She could be rude, opinionated, loud, foul-mouthed, and, quite frankly, a little mean. The thing about Dorothy is she never judged anyone, and if she loved you, you were lucky because she loved beyond measure and completely. The world is going to be a little dimmer without her amazing presence.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jo Ann Carwile and Kathy Valentine; two brothers, Bill and Chink Barton; her husband, M.D. Eagle, and by two great-granddaughters, Taylor and Ashlyn.
She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Ward and her husband Rick of Hereford and Jeni Rogers and her husband Rick of Amarillo; two brothers, Ronnie Barton and his wife Linda of California and Bobby Barton of Colorado; eight grandchildren, Deann Martin and husband Phillip, Ashley Haskins and her husband Robert, Shannon Kirkland and her husband George, Shalyn Cox and her husband Craig, Amber Pucket and her husband Jay, Courtney Kennedy, David Ferril and his wife Jacy, and Megan Ferril; seven step-grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sixteen step-great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and three step-great-great grandchildren.
