Dorothy Violet (Hanegan) Warnix

Dorothy Violet Warnix, age 93 formally of Amarillo, died on February 9, 2023 in Lovington, New Mexico.

The family will receive guests on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 from 5:30 until 7:00 PM at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia in Amarillo.  A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Llano Cemetery.

Dorothy was born May 16, 1929 in Quitaque to her parents George and Alice Lee Hanagan.  She was raised on a farm when life wasn’t always easy.  She and her sisters had a very close and unique bond all throughout their lives.  Growing up on the farm she learned to cook, can and bake and she became a master of all those things.  She was a wonderful cook that could create delectable candies and bake virtually anything.

Dorothy was always “all in” she never did anything half way.  She would rise early in the morning and cook complete meals to take along on special trips with the children to Buffalo Lake or Palo Duro Canyon.  Everything she did she put her entire heart in to.

She was a lover of people.  Dorothy had a heart of gold and was a very generous individual.  She would ensure others had food even though her family was struggling as well.  She delighted in helping others and had a servant’s heart.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth Warnix; a daughter, Brenda Williams and by a sister, Hazel Monroe.

She is survived by her two daughters, Linda Rogers of Eunice, NM and Joy Fowler of Amarillo; a son, Oscar Williams of Hereford; two sisters, Helen Nunn of Amarillo and Jean Volini of Midlothian; three grandchildren, Elaina Rogers, Chad and Dusty Fowler; and seven great grandchildren.
