Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Tellman, 85, of Amarillo, passed peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026, surrounded by her beloved family.
A prayer vigil will be held at St. Hyacinth’s Catholic Church, 4500 West Hills Trail, on Monday, February 23, 2026, at 6 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 1200 South Washington, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 2 pm with Reverend Anthony Neusch presiding. Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery.
Betty was born on July 27, 1940, in Groom, Texas to Leo Matthew and Veronica Caroline (Sanning) Koetting. She relocated to Amarillo in 1955 at the age of 15 with her family. Betty graduated from St Mary’s Academy in 1958. On April 8, 1961, she married Charles “Chuck” Tellman and the two began their family.
Betty spent many hours serving the numerous Catholic Churches where she was a member. Baking thousands of pies for the St Joseph’s fair cafe, serving funeral dinners for years at both St. Joseph’s and St. Hyacinth's, and chairing the Thanksgiving dinner at St. Hyacinth. She was a member of the St. Ann’s circle.
Betty loved cooking and hosting all kinds of gatherings. From having seventy-five family and friends over for Thanksgiving dinner to Friday night happy hour for friends or neighbors. Everyone knew they could find something to eat at her house.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Chuck” Tellman, and brothers, Alfred Koetting, Stanley Koetting, and Fred Koetting.
Those left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Lynne Tellman, and Andi Cochran and husband Bobby; Sons, Kenn Tellman and wife Angie, Robert Tellman and Wife Arlene, and Chris Tellman and wife Tracy; as well as 12 grandchildren, Maddie, Taylor, Stewart, Kayla, Carly, Tristen, Colby, Tyler, Matthew, and Patrick, Toebi and Chelsea, as well as 13 great-grandchildren. Betty also leaves her cherished siblings, Charles Koetting, Carol Saldana, and Mary Fuller.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Catholic Charities ot the Texas Panhandle, 2004 N Spring Street, Amarillo, TX 79107, or St. Mary's Cathedral School, 1200 South Washington, Amarillo, Texas 79102.
