Obituary

Elizabeth 'Gail' Utsey fell asleep peacefully at home and woke in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven on Sunday, the 28th of June 2026.

Gail's life will be celebrated on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Schooler Funeral Home in the Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia, with Pastor Lyndal Waldrip of MORE Church presiding. A life celebration party will follow at 6001 Hanson Road. The family requests that you bring your brightest memories and any quilts she gifted to display. Feel free to wear the fun colors she loved, if you so desire, as we celebrate the life of our irreplaceable Mom and Memaw/Mamo.

Gail was first and foremost a loving, supportive mother and Memaw/Mamo to all of her grandchildren. She never missed a milestone event but attended with such joy and pride in all they accomplished.

Gail found her soul mate in Big Al. They shared a deep love that is beyond what can be expressed in words, and they are reunited in Heaven. They loved riding their motorcycles and spending time with all their children and grandchildren.

Gail was an eat dessert first so she wouldn't be too full kind of gal. She loved to play board and card games with all her children and grandchildren. She always brought with her her adventurous spirit, infectious laugh, willingness to be silly, openness to try just about anything, and her unforgettable signature screams of Farkle! She never wanted anything more than time with her family and friends. Nothing ever needed to be extravagant, just a simple, delicious meal, and she'd light up. She enjoyed quilting, ensuring all her family had a piece of her in a quilt or rug she lovingly sewed for them.

She wanted to be remembered for her deep love and devotion to Jesus Christ. Her whole life changed with Jesus and Big Al. She believed that "love is a verb, it requires action." She would send daily devotionals to her kids and grandbabies, encouraging them to come to or strengthen their relationship with our Savior. Always saying, "When it's my time, I just want a celebration! I'll be in Heaven with Big Al and Jesus. He can take me any time."

Gail was preceded in death by her adoring husband, Big Al Utsey; her mother, Genivee Read; her dad, William 'Bill' Alexander; and her brother, Michael Alexander. Those left to cherish her memories are her son, Zachary Gilbert and his wife Amanda 'Syxx' Gilbert, and their children Raina, Nathaneal, Eric, and Hunter, son, Eric Gilbert and wife Tonja Gilbert, and their children Colton, Kamy, and Gabby, her daughter, Kelley Rider and her children Colby and Logan, her stepson, Gary Utsey and his children Jordan, Eryka, Taylor, and Jace, her stepson, Jeremy Utsey and his wife Alison Utsey, and their children Ellie and Noah; and her great-grandchildren, Walker, Georgia and August.
