Elsie Lucille (Birkhimer) Anderson

May 2, 1923 — December 28, 2022

Elsie Lucille Anderson, age 99 of Amarillo died December 28, 2022 in Amarillo.
Mrs. Anderson will lie in state on Monday, January 2, 2023 from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.  A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Albert Harris will officiate.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

Elsie was born  May 2, 1923 to William Corbin Birkhimer & Katherine Konradt Birkhimer. Elsie Anderson was raised in Salem, Ohio with three sisters, Dorothy, Edna, Betty and one brother, Robert.  She also had a talented musical family.  Her fondest memories were when her dad, who played the violin, would book gigs for the girls at the Granges on weekends.  Elsie played the guitar and sang harmony with her sisters.   After high school, she effectively managed the cosmetic department for Turner Drug Store in Sebring, Ohio.

In 1946, she was introduced to Kenneth Anderson, who had just returned from WWII. They married in July 1947 and remained in Sebring till 1963.  Kenneth received a job offer and the family moved to California in 1963.  After 21 years in California, Kenneth retired and they moved to Amarillo, Texas to be with their only family and grandchildren.

Furthermore, Elsie had a great sense of humor, loved life, worked hard, and kept her home very well maintained.  Most of all, she loved her family and was a three time cancer survivor.  She always said if she had the choice to sink or swim, she was going to keep swimming and not let the past get in the way. With her good memory of life stories, her famous lasagna recipe, and her “go with what you got” positive attitude towards life, she made her mark upon those who loved her. She will be so missed by all that knew her.

After 50 years of marriage, Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, sisters, brother, niece and two nephews. She is survived by her only daughter Karen, grandsons, David & Brian, six great grandchildren, three nieces, and three nephews.
