Eunice Lee Schilling, 86, of Amarillo passed peacefully on July 11, 2025 with her beloved family by her side.
A prayer vigil will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 6:00 pm at St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 S. Coulter. Mass will be celebrated at the church on Monday, July 21, 2025, at 10:00 am with Monsignor Joseph Bixenman presiding. Entombment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Eunice was born January 14, 1939 in Lynn County, TX to Alvin and Serena Buxkemper. She graduated from Wilson High School. She married Joseph Schilling on October 4, 1960 in Slaton, Texas; and they relocated to Farwell, Texas in 1961 to begin farming. Together, Joe and Eunice were members of St. Ann’s Catholic Church of Bovina, where Eunice played the Organ for 20 years. In 1994, Joe retired from farming and he and Eunice relocated to Amarillo. They joined St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church soon after settling in Amarillo.
Eunice was a member of the Ladies Society, Altar Guild, and Red Hats Group. Eunice enjoyed volunteering at children’s school, Farwell Convalescent Center, Catholic Family Services, Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army; and Tyler Street Resource Center, where she helped in the barber shop cutting hair for the homeless. She was also part of the Liturgy décor at St. Thomas and the Bishop DeFalco Retreat Center. She worked with ACTS Retreats as Director and ON Team.
Joe and Eunice were recipients of the Heart of Samaritan Award.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Serena Buxkemper, and 2 sons, Nicholas Schilling and Trent Schilling.
Those left to cherish Eunice’s memories are her husband, Joe Schilling, daughter, Judith Tucker (Lane) of Amarillo, 2 sons, Stephen Schilling (Karen) of Farwell, Texas and Jason Schilling (Tami) of Lubbock, Texas; sister, Jeanette Linder of Slaton, Texas, 8 grandchildren, Russell Schilling (Brynna), Hunter Alford (Cadie), Tyler Schilling (Justana), Dylan Alford (Dakota), Trevor Schilling (Mary), Garrett Schilling(Sydnee), Spencer Schilling, and Catelyn Schilling; 3 great-grandaughters, Tatum Alford, Collins Alford and Haven Schilling; 1 great-grandson Ledger Schilling, with two more great grandsons Bodi Alford expected in August and another due in September.
