Evelyn was born on November 15, 1936, in Amarillo, Texas, to her parents, C.A. and Emma Cory Nussbaum. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and went on to attend nursing school, beginning a lifelong calling of caring for others.
Evelyn started her career at St. Anthony’s Hospital and later worked at the Amarillo Diagnostic Clinic, where she served patients with compassion and dedication until her retirement in 2006. Throughout her life, she was a caregiver in every sense of the word. Whether raising her family or tending to those in her care, Evelyn had a rare and beautiful gift for serving others. She found her greatest joy in performing works of service, always placing the needs of others before her own
She lived by God’s commandment to love one another and was known for her accepting spirit, gentle heart, and unwavering forgiveness. Evelyn never judged, always welcomed, and loved deeply.
Evelyn delighted in her family, especially her grandchildren, and cherished the special name they all lovingly called her — “G.G.” After retirement, she enjoyed reading, crocheting, and watching a little television, but she was happiest when surrounded by those she loved, both two-legged and four-legged.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Henry J Rahn, and by her second husband, Carl F. Rahn.
Evelyn is survived by four daughters, Joan Wood and husband Ricky of Mesquite, Shron Meadows of Amarillo, Donna Brown and husband Kenney of Illinois, and Karen Guzman and husband Edward of Amarillo; a son Mark Rahn and wife Veronica of Seguin; sister Teresa Craviott and husband Harry of Idaho; three brothers, Kenneth Nussbaum of California, Tom Nussbaum and wife Joan of Cloudcroft, and James Nussbaum of Amarillo; her devoted fur babies, Cooper, Zues and the two Harleys; by ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to think BSA Hospice of the Southwest for their compassionate care given to Evelyn and the family during this time
