Steve was born on December 31, 1961 in Dalhart, TX to Fidel and Virginia. He graduated from Dalhart High School in 1980. After moving to Amarillo, Steve began working for Budweiser Distribution Co. on November 16, 1989 and was a loyal Bud Man for 34 years.

His children remember him as a kind, loving, religious, and dependable father who always believed in them and encouraged them to follow their dreams.

Steve was passionate about sports, and anyone who knew him can attest to his ability in football, golf, softball, bowling and especially dancing. He was a generous man who was more than willing to give the shirt off his back.  Steve was an active and devout member of the Catholic Church. A dedicated part of the community, Steve was a member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and volunteered for the Eveline Rivers toy drive. To this date, Steve is still a member of the last undefeated, undisputed Dalhart Football District Champions. Go Wolves!

Steve is survived by his parents, Fidel and Virginia Melendez of Dalhart, TX; his four sons and daughter-in-law, Brice, Breck and Kristen, Cameron and Christian as well as his two grandchildren, Owen and Oakley; his five brothers and sisters, Manuel Melendez of Dalhart, Damian Melendez of Amarillo, Lisa Melendez of Amarillo, Denise Martin of Farmington, AR, and Will Melendez of Colorado Springs, CO. The family would like to thank Andie Tate for bringing an immeasurable light to his life and for the love they shared. His sons would like to thank Gale and Rob Stashi and Nikki and Drue Smith for their incredible help during such a difficult time.
