Gerald John Brandt was born to Dennis and Marcella Brandt on May 21, 1946 in Canyon, Texas.  At the age of 18, Gerald enlisted in the Army and rose to rank of Sergeant.  He served in the Vietnam War. He received an Army Commendation Medal in 1967 and was discharged in 1968.  He began working in the wholesale plumbing business as a salesman in 1969 and advanced to become President of Amarillo Winn Supply where he still worked up until his passing. He loved working and said that “he was having too much fun to retire.”  Gerald did what so many seek out, he was passionate about his work and the customers he served and was successful in every facet of his career.  Gerald was a devout Christian who served God his entire life in the Catholic Church, becoming a member at St. Thomas at its inception in 1984. He served as an Adorer in the church, praying fervently when called upon at all hours of the day and night. Gerald served as a Master Server, a Member of Serra Club of Amarillo, Eucharistic Minister, Usher, served in the Men’s Fellowship, The Knights of Columbus and served on the Parish Board. Gerald was also a Knight of Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem 2020.

Gerald dedicated his life to family and friends.  He was a generous man who provided well for his family and helped many people throughout his life.  In his early years, he enjoyed playing in softball leagues and volleyball leagues. Later in life, he became an avid golfer and loved spending time on his land, raising small herds of cattle, during the pretty part of the year. Gerald enjoyed traveling with his wife, Truetta, and saw much of the world through business trips to Monte Carlo, Athens, Greece, London, and church sponsored trips such as visiting the Holy Lands, Ireland, and Rome. Gerald’s smile and joy was forever present, and he could make anyone smile, never meeting a stranger. Gerald and Truetta just celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary in August 2021 with their marriage honoring God and each other throughout their marriage. Gerald took Truetta to church for their first date which is a picture of his love and service to God.  He loved his wife, kids, grandkids, and family well.  His honesty, character, and joy will forever leave a legacy.
