Glenda Gwyn Thompson Bell, 91, was born January 14, 1934 during The Great Depression, in Wheeler County, TX to Orval Lee and Verna D. Thompson. She passed away May 27, 2025 in Amarillo, TX.

Glenda grew up in Magic City area and in Kellerville, TX. She selected Shamrock for high school where she was a tenacious guard on the basketball team, played clarinet in the band, and graduated as Salutatorian in 1952. She was a member of the Shamrock Church of Christ. After high school, she went to work for the telephone company during the time of switchboard operators and party lines. During her first marriage of 23 years to Pike Smith, she worked at Dr. Ray Lacy Ziegler’s office, the Shamrock General Hospital both old and new, Farmers and Merchants State Bank, and finally as a secretary at the El Paso Natural Gas Field Office. She was an accomplished seamstress who made numerous Easter, banquet, and prom dresses. She was a wonderful mom that prepared endless dishes for salad suppers, attending every basketball game and band concert.

She married Bob Bell on November 4, 1978 in the home of Shamrock friends, John and Helen Cullers. After marrying, Glenda and Bob relocated to Amarillo. Over the years, she made many friends while working at Floyd West Insurance Agency, Connie Stark Realtors and at Sansing, Sticksel, McCarty and Cowan Optometry. At age 55, Glenda decided to go back to school. She attended the Exposito School of Hair Design and became a hairdresser. She practiced that art at The Continental Retirement Center in Amarillo for 5 years and thoroughly enjoyed her job. She said it was like she had 40 grandmothers!

Glenda was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed, but whose memory will live on in the lives of the many people she loved and who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Luther Andrew Thompson and Gearld Ray Thompson. Survivors include her husband of over 46 years, Bob, two children from a previous marriage, Dwight Smith, Leslie Smith Weaver and husband, Jack, all of Amarillo, stepdaughter, Dr. Robyn Lee Bell, stepdaughter-in-law, Linda Jacobs, both of Sarasota, FL, grandson, Alexander Weaver and wife Meagan of Round Rock, TX, sister-in-law, Sherry Thompson of Derby, KS and nephews Mike Thompson and wife Susan of Rose Hill, KS, and Randy Thompson and wife Wendy and their children, Andrew Thompson and Katelyn Harshfield (husband Koty and son, Kolton), all of Broken Arrow, OK.
