Greg entered this world on September 11, 1959 in Shreveport, Louisiana, born to his parents Robert Ignacio and Madolyn Humphrey Gutierrez, being one of five children.
He graduated from Tascosa High School in 1978 and fell in love with a beauty from Amarillo High, Kimberly Hugus. The couple were married on November 21, 1979 in Amarillo at the old St. Mary's Catholic Church. Their love story would continue to include two children and span over the next forty two years.
Greg was a big guy, he had a presence that was undeniable. When he walked into a room, people noticed. They were drawn to him not by his size, but by his spirit. He had a way of making everyone feel accepted and important. He was empathetic to those that were hurting or lost and it was his mission to minister to them. He was filled with the Holy Spirit and loved bringing people to Christ. He was an encourager, easy to communicate with and never judgmental. He understood that people were people with hurts and failures. He always strived to do his absolute best with what he had in every situation. Greg was a lover of people and of God and it was his desire to bring the two together whenever he could.
Although Greg was a caring and compassionate man, he also had a bit of a prankster side to him, especially with his closest family and friends. He could be quite the ring tailed tooter! However, no matter how silly he could get, his love for them far exceeded anything else. He cherished spending time with family and friends and enjoyed going on family “outings.” Greg also loved a fine glass of wine and a good cigar. Before his health and mobility declined one of his favorite activities was golf, he played as much as he could.
Encourager, mentor, servant of God, that is how Greg would want to be remembered and that is how he would want each of us to carry on, always doing the best you could with what you have to make the world a little brighter for those in need.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew Jonathan Gutierrez; a brother-in-law Richard Ornelas; and a sister-in law Sandy Gutierrez.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly of the home; his daughter Brandy Radney and her husband Russell; his son Thaddeus Gutierrez; two sisters, Gayle Neusch and her husband Kevin and Pam Ornelas; two brothers, Robert Gutierrez and wife Sandy Marie and Kelly Gutierrez and his wife Cynthia all of Amarillo; his six precious grandchildren, Reece, Seighlyr and Sky Radney, Tagan Gutierrez, Asher Cline-Gutierrez and Haizlee Gutierrez; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
