Harold “Hal” Whittington Ambers, 80, of Amarillo, died on April 11, 2026, in Amarillo.

A memorial service to honor his life will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, 4100 South Georgia.

Hal was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, on November 8, 1945, to Elbert Whittington Ambers and Mildred Greta Carroll Ambers. He proudly served in the United States Navy and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

He graduated from Wayland Baptist University with a degree in electronics. Hal spent more than 30 years at the Pantex Plant as an electrical technician before retiring in 2008 due to health reasons.

Hal married Constance Joan Worford on April 4, 1964, in Wichita, Kansas. That was the beginning of an adventure that would last the next forty-two years until Connie’s death in 2006.  

Hal was a passionate, vigorous reader who devoured knowledge and became the “human Google” to his family and friends. He loved everything outdoors, especially camping, fishing, and running - Hal enjoyed running 5Ks just for fun! He was able to fix anything, even things that seemed unfixable to others. He also loved sports of all kinds and won a championship in doubles tennis.

Hal will be remembered for his sharp mind, generous spirit. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Connie; and by a sister, Greta Ambers.

Hal is survived by his daughters, Tane Appel and husband Jimmie and Lauren Ambers; his son, Steve Ambers and wife Chresta; and his grandchildren, Jessica, Ryan, Michael, Emily, David, Brendan and Bonnie.
