Jerry David Ashford, Age 71 of Groom, was unexpectedly ushered into heaven on February 5, 2024.
The family will receive guests from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM on Friday, February 9. 2024, at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia, Amarillo.
A graveside service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Groom with Toby Tucker, Forrest McLaughlin, and Father Balaswamy Polisetti officiating.
Jerry was born in Amarillo on December 10, 1952, to his parents, Daniel Weldon Sr and Doris Patricia (Poynor) Ashford. A lifelong resident of Groom, he graduated from Groom High School in 1971. He married the love of his life, Pam Ollinger, on July 20, 1974. Their love story would last the next forty-nine years and grow to include three children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
In his younger days, Jerry owned and operated the Phillips 66 Service Station in Groom. He later went to work for Pantex, where he worked the next forty-four years holding various positions, currently in Production Planning.
Jerry was a quiet, unassuming, soul that enjoyed family dinners on Sunday evenings, watching his Westerns, particularly Gunsmoke and anything with John Wayne, and cherished the fact he was “Grandad” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a loving and dependable husband, dad, and grandad who could fix anything and was just a phone call away when needed.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jerry is survived by his wife Pam, with whom he would have celebrated fifty years of marriage in July; son, Nick Ashford, daughters, Tami Keesee and husband Jerod, and Cassie Ashford all of Groom; two sisters, Mary Sue Lyles and her husband Don and Patti McLaughlin and her husband Forrest; a brother Dan Ashford Jr and his wife Cathy all of Amarillo; five grandchildren K’Leigh, Maci, Westen, Ryan and Blakely; and by two great-grandchildren, Paisleigh and Asher and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be made in Jerry’s memory to All Things Whitt, P.O. Box 523 Groom, Texas 79039.
