Jo Ann Sundquist Geuther

Jo Ann Sundquist Geuther was born on September 7, 1934, to Dr. Elmer and Katherine Laverne (Hoeven) Sundquist in Hartley, Iowa. She graduated from Primghar High School with the class of 1952.  She went on to obtain a nursing degree from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa.  She worked as a registered nurse from the age of 21 until her retirement at the age of 65.

On June 24, 1956, Jo was united in marriage to Paul Geuther in Primghar, Iowa.  Following their marriage, Jo and Paul lived in Ames, Iowa while Paul completed his studies at Iowa State University.  Jo and Paul would together have four children.

Jo and Paul settled in Hartley Iowa but would go on to make their home in such places as Farwell, Texas; Slayton, Minnesota; and in retirement to Mesa, Arizona.  Jo and Paul were able to take many trips between Minnesota, Texas, and Arizona to visit children and grandchildren.  Jo also loved to spend time with family and friends at the family lake cottage in Spirit Lake, Iowa.  She enjoyed photographing all things in nature, wherever she lived, and had many photo albums to prove it.

Jo passed away from the complications of cancer on December 28, 2022.  She was 88 years old.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Paul Geuther on June 24, 2007; her brother Stephen Sundquist; her sister-in-law Beth Sundquist; and by her brother-in-law Kenneth Petersen.  Jo is survived by her daughter Kay O’Brian and her husband Greg of Friona, Texas; her three sons, Greg Geuther and his wife Deana of Burnet, Texas, Dan Geuther of Mesa, Arizona, and Matt Geuther and his wife Dana Lane of Chaska, Minnesota; her nine grandchildren, John O’Brian and his wife Maegan, Mike O’Brian, Dan O’Brian, Paul Geuther, Jeremy Yielding, Nikki Geuther and her husband Mike Fry, Gerry Geuther and his wife Jennelle, Derek Geuther and Ruby Geuther; brother and sister-in-law Robert and Norma Prew; sister-in-law Marilyn Petersen; seven great grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held in the Lakeview Gardens Cemetery in Spirit Lake, Iowa in the summer of 2023.
