Joe L. Homer, 71, loving husband and father, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, December 14, 2020.
Interment will be at 12:00 p.m., in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Guests are invited to attend burial but must remain in vehicles and cannot enter cemetery gates at the family’s request. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.
Joe was born January 24, 1949 in Groom to Alfred and Agnes Homer. He graduated from Groom High School and attended Clarendon Junior College. Joe married Barbara Aylward on June 7, 1969 and together they were members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. When Joe wasn’t tending to the farming, he was a very active member of the community. He was a member of the Carson County Junior Livestock Association for over 40 years. He was an active member of the Lions club for many years, and served as the Mayor of Groom for over 20 years. In addition, he actively supported the students of Groom High School, whether it was cooking for the concession stand, driving the kids to their various school functions, or just being there to cheer them on. He also spent many years behind the plate umpiring baseball games, and on the court refereeing basketball games. He loved his community and was always willing to help out. He was definitely one of a kind and will be missed dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Al and Agnes Homer; and brother, James Homer.
Joe is survived by his wife, Barbara Homer; sons, Joseph A. Homer (Shari), Daryl R. Homer (Chrystal), Robert W. Homer and Stanley J. Homer (Betsy); sisters, Rose Mary Eakin, Ruth Williams (Don) and Rita Lister (Mike); brothers, John Homer (Doris) and Jerry Homer (Sally); grandchildren, Zach, Conner, Caden, Nirey, Brooklynn, Jackson, Sarah Grace and Samuel.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that contributions be made to the Groom Ambulance Service, PO Box 217, Groom, Texas 79039 in memory of Joe Homer.
