Joe Rios age 64 of Amarillo died March 2, 2023 in Amarillo

A memorial service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

His brother, Moses Rios will officiate the service.

Joe was born on December 7, 1958 in Amarillo to Jose and Carmen Rios. He entered in to the US

Marines underage, but by the time his age was discovered he was of age and was allowed to continue to

serve. He was very proud to be a Marine. He was always known for his shiny black boots, people may

have not known how Joe Rios was but you mention the man with the shiny black boots and they knew

exactly who he was!

Joe was very active and loved to run, he continued to run throughout his life until his health prevented

him from doing so. He loved watching sci-fi movies, and fishing at Galveston and Corpus. Some of his

favorite times were spend sturgeon fishing in Washington State. He also loved to shop with Lydia and

cherished time spent with her.

Joe had a presence about him. He was very well respected in life and especially in his career as a rigger.

He was very hard working and set and excellent example for fellow co-workers. He loved his rigging

family and considered them to be his family away from family. Joe was a strict man, but a very caring

and kind hearted man. He would always hear you out even if he didn’t agree with what you had said or

done. Joe always cared for his mother the best he could, sending her flowers and

always ensuring she knew she was treasured and loved. He was devoted to his family and friends and

loved them dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father Jose and a brother, Lupe Rios.

He is survived by two daughters, Lydia Smith of Amarillo and Aerial Rios of Corpus Christi; his son Josh

Rios of Amarillo; his sisters, Anna Martinez and her husband Rogelio, Teresa Sanchez, Monica Guerrero

and her husband Jose, Veronica Lopez and her husband Albert and Maria Sanchez all of Amarillo; his

brothers, Moses Rios and his wife Christi of Plano, Jimmy Rios and his wife Oty of Port Charlotte, Florida

and Noah Rios of Amarillo; his mother Carmen Guerrero; and six grandchildren, Remington, Rebel,

Chloe, Shy-Ann, Zarah and Orion.
