John Henry Clancy Jr, age 86 of Amarillo, died September 11, 2023, in Amarillo.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 18, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. The Rev. Greg Corona will officiate.
John was born on January 9, 1937, in Ipswich, Massachusetts to his parents John H. and Ruth Belle Clancy. He proudly served in the United States Army for two years and the United States Air Force for another eight years.
On June 24, 1982, he married Mary Frances Coe, and their love would carry them through the next forty-one years. They complimented one another, never raising their voices, always taking time to truly listen and understand one another.
John worked for the Potter County Sheriff’s Department for a time before becoming a correctional officer at the Clements Unit. He worked there for over twenty years until his retirement.
John enjoyed fishing and traveling with family. He and Frances never had a set destination; they just liked exploring. A kind, soft-spoken man, he was the best husband and father his family could have ever hoped for.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John is survived by his wife, Frances; and his children, Patricia Maples, Faye Spalding, Steve Tillery, Bobby Tillery, John M. Clancy, and Jody Clancy; his grandchildren, Jolie, Seger, Tony, and Elizabeth; and several great-grandchildren.
