John Gressett, 75, of Amarillo, TX died on December, 8th.
He was born on March 22, 1945 in Canyon, Tx to Bruce and Lillian Gressett. In June, 1969, he met the love of his life and “the most beautiful woman he had ever seen,” Linda Huseman. They married on December 26, 1969 and he spent the rest of his life loving her.
After serving in the Navy and while working for Bell Helicopter, John went back to school and received a Masters Degree. He built his own accounting business and worked as a CPA until retirement.
John was a prolific reader, story teller, and a master gardener. Valuing education, loyalty, and hard work, John also understood that giving back and helping others was one of the most important things he could do with his life. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels for over 10 years and instilled the importance of giving back to his children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Lillian Gressett, and a sister, Geneva Schaeffer.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Gressett of Amarillo; three children, Amy Gressett-Watkins and husband Chris of Moore, Ok, Rene’ Gressett of Amarillo, and Shelly Hammond and husband Aaron of the Netherlands; two grandchildren, Kade and Logan Patton of Amarillo; four siblings, Bobbye Horn and Thurman, Joan Meason and John, June Porter and Vaugh, and Jamey Gressett and Kandy, and brother-in-law Stanley Schaeffer.
The family wishes to thank his VA Hospital team and the BSA Hospice team for the care they showed both his and his family.
The family suggests memorials be to the Meals on Wheels of Amarillo at 7550 Outlook Drive, Amarillo, Tx, 79106.
Due to Covid, a memorial will be held at a later date.
