John Scott "Johnny" Kimberling, known lovingly as Johnny, passed peacefully from this life on September 28, 2025, at the age of 82 in Amarillo, Texas.
Born on June 1, 1943, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Johnny was the son of John Dewey and Ruby V. Kimberling. He was a proud alumnus of Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch and a member of the first graduating class of Tascosa High School in 1959.
On November 9, 1961, Johnny married Patricia Williams, in Amarillo. Together, they built a life rooted in love, hard work, and dedication to family. They were together through thick and thin for 63 years raising children, grand-children and great-grandchildren.
Johnny was the founder and proud owner of Kimberling’s Custom Drilling, a business he operated for over 35 years. Through his work, he laid the foundation for countless buildings throughout Amarillo and surrounding areas. Johnny earned the respect and loyalty of his clients, many of whom became lifelong friends. He was the epitome of a hardworking man—principled, meticulous, responsible, and driven by high ethics.
At the heart of Johnny’s life was his family. He shared an unbreakable bond with his daughter, Kelly, whom he cherished deeply. He instilled the same strong values he held himself in his sons, John “Kim” and Kevin, and was immensely proud of their service to our country in the U.S. Marines and Navy. Nothing brought him greater joy than time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren—especially watching their sporting events and music programs, which he loved most of all.
Johnny was truly one of a kind—a complete and remarkable person. His family remembers him as endlessly supportive, deeply loving, kind-hearted, and exceptionally intelligent. A true source of wisdom, he seemed to know a little bit about everything and generously shared his knowledge, passing on countless valuable skills. His presence filled a room, and his absence will be felt deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Kevin and by a niece Mendy Kimberling.
John is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Patricia; daughter Kelly Davis; son John Kimberling Jr. and wife Zeny; brother Tom Kimberling; six grandchildren, Ashley and her husband Clay Martin, Joshua Kimberling and his wife Gwendolyn, Maria and her husband Zack Vickers, Shelbey and her husband Trent Ware, Mason Kimberling; and Sean Kimberling; great-grandchildren Sirr, Peyton, Zayden, Zaylee, Mia, Cole, Emily, and Hailey; and a great-great-granddaughter Avayah. The family also extends heartfelt gratitude to “their angel” Joel Miles, a devoted friend and constant source of help and support.
A private memorial will be held by the family to honor Johnny’s life.
Johnny Kimberling was a man of grit and grace, of quiet strength and steadfast love. His impact will live on in the lives of those he touched, and his memory will forever be a blessing.
