John Winters went home to see the Lord peacefully surrounded by his family on April 28th 2022.
Memorial service will be at Middle Point Community Baptist Church on Saturday May 7th at 10:00 AM located at 6700 West Rockwell Road.
John was born June 8, 1940 in Amarillo to Leonard and Jettrew Winters descending from a long line of farmers and stockman. He grew up in Canyon where he graduated from Canyon High School and later attended WTAMU. He met and married the love of his life Elaine Downing where they were high school sweethearts. John later served in the US Army where he received laboratory training. He became a Medical Technologist and was recruited to run the lab at Amarillo Diagnostic Clinic where he was the lab director for forty-six years.
He loved travel with his children especially to the ancestral castle in Scotland. He loved listening to Scotland the Brave on the bagpipes as well as Amazing Grace and was very proud of his Scottish heritage. He enjoyed reading the history of the Jacobite Rebellion and all things Scottish. He most recently travelled to Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks. He loved living in Texas and the Texas Panhandle and was an avid gun collector and competition shooter who won many trophies. He loved reading his Bible and attending Middle Point Community Fellowship Baptist Church and instilled in his children a deep love of faith.
He is survived by his daughter Angela and husband Rodney Bailey of Amarillo, son Greg and wife Theresa Winters of Forney Texas with grandson Duncan, daughter Lisa Meyers and granddaughter Bethany of Tahlequah Oklahoma, his sister-in-law Mary Winters and nephew David and wife Melanie of Canyon Texas, niece Cindy Martin and husband Michael of Columbus Georgia, nephew Tim Hefner of Columbus Georgia and many beloved cousins.
