Jo Dean “Jody” Dysart, 84, of Amarillo, passed peacefully on June 12, 2023.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. Funeral Services will be held in the funeral home’s Brentwood Chapel on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 10 am, with Pastor Scott Davey presiding. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Jody was born June 24, 1938, to William Callaway and Era Elvira (Ticer) Roberts in Plainview, Texas. She married Norman “De” Dysart on June 1, 1973, in Tucumcari, New Mexico, and they set off on life’s greatest adventure as husband and wife. Together they were devoted members of Oakdale Grace Baptist Church.
For the better part of nearly 30 years, Jody was the absolute best waitress who ever waited a table. She served the community of Amarillo faithfully at Polly’s Restaurant. She greeted every customer who walked through the door with the brightest smile and warmest welcome. Jody had a natural love for all people, no matter their walk of life. She genuinely cared for everyone. She never met a stranger, nor did she ever shake hands. When offered a hand, she simply smiled and replied, “We don’t shake hands. I’m a hugger”, after which she would embrace you and leave a kiss on your cheek. The family all agreed; they came from a long line of love.
Jody enjoyed crafting in her free time. She did oil paintings, leather work, charcoal drawings, and just about anything she found to keep herself occupied. Many of her works of art will remain to be cherished by her adoring family for years to come.
Jody is preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, three brothers, two sisters, and one son-in-law. Those left to cherish her memories are her daughters Leasa Dean and husband Raymond, Lynne Haskins, Lorna Ketcherside and husband Gary, and Lanita Griffith and Shaun, her son Leslie “Les” Norton and wife Jaylene, sisters Sue Price and husband Lloyd, and Bert Rickman; her adoring 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, and many other loving family and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital be made in honor of Jody Dysart so that no child ever has to suffer. Click or copy the link below to donate
