Obituary

Jonah Paul Jaramillo, 23, of Amarillo, Texas, will be remembered for his innate wit and sense of humor, fun-loving spirit, intelligence, and kind heart. Jonah had a way of making people feel welcome and comfortable in his presence, and his warmth and outgoing personality left a lasting impression on those who knew and loved him.

A funeral service honoring Jonah’s life will be held on Saturday, October 10, at 2:00 p.m. at Hillside Christian Church, Amarillo West Campus, 6100 Soncy Road, Amarillo, Texas. A private burial for family will follow.

Jonah grew up in Amarillo, where he attended and graduated from San Jacinto Christian Academy. During his time there, he was a member of the National Honor Society and played on the tennis team. He went on to attend West Texas A&M University.

One of the most meaningful parts of Jonah’s life was the relationships he developed within the recovery community. He made a genuine effort to help others feel welcome, seen, and understood. His kindness, compassion, and ability to connect with people made a difference in the lives of those around him. Jonah understood the importance of connection and belonging, and he shared those gifts freely with others. He also had a deep love for his dogs who were with him through good times and bad.

Jonah was smart, funny, outgoing, and full of life. He loved to laugh and brought a special energy to the people around him. Those who knew him will remember his humor, his kindness, and the genuine way he cared about others. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many people whose lives he touched.

Even in his passing, Jonah’s kindness and generosity continue through the donation of his organs, giving others the gift of life and hope for the future. His legacy of compassion lives on in the lives he has helped save and the families forever changed by his gift.

Jonah is survived by his mother, Jeanie Shawhart; his father, Paul Jaramillo; his sister, Hannah Politz, and her husband, Cole; his sister, Ella Jaramillo; his grandmother, Sharon Yates; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him dearly.

For those who desire, in lieu of flowers, donations in Jonah’s memory may be made to Infinite Recovery of Austin, the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance, or the Amarillo SPCA.

Jonah’s life was a reminder of the importance of laughter, kindness, and making others feel that they belong. Though his time here was far too short, the love he gave, the friendships he built, and the lives he touched will remain a part of his legacy. Through the memories he leaves behind and the lives he continues to touch through organ donation, Jonah’s light will live on. He will forever be loved, deeply missed, and held close in the hearts of those who knew him.
