Jonathan Wayne Sparks, age 61, of Amarillo, was called home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family, on January 6, 2024. He was a beloved father, son, brother and friend.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 12 p.m. in the Schooler Funeral Home's Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia Amarillo, Texas, with Pastor Shawn Freeby of Hillside Christian Church presiding. Interment will be held at a later date at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Jonathan was born to Audrey Proctor and Wayne Sparks on November 9, 1962, in Lubbock, Texas. He was raised by his grandparents, Ruby and Grady Proctor, and grew up in Paris, TX. Later, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps, embodying the values of honor, courage, and commitment. Jonathan was honorably discharged on February 11, 1987, leaving behind a legacy of duty and patriotism that will be forever remembered.

Jonathan was a huge fan of NFL football and supported the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also enjoyed watching college football and proudly supported the Texas Longhorns. He liked visiting the casino and playing slot machines in his free time. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Jonathan is survived by his sisters Cindy Jarrell, Barbara Medina, and Brenda Sparks, as well as his sons Scott Sparks, Kevin Sparks, Cody Sparks, and Cody Dencklau, and his daughters Stacy Quilantan and Destiny Martin. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, his special friend Sue Dencklau, and his best friend Glen Martin. He was preceded in death by his parents/grandparents, Ruby and Grady Proctor, brother Dale Johnson, and his sister, Rebecca Harris.

As we mourn Jonathan’s passing, let us also celebrate the life he lived. His memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he find eternal rest, and his family and friends find peace.
