Joyce Marie Reid

Joyce Marie Reid, 75, of Amarillo, passed peacefully in her home on June 12, 2026, with her husband Gordon at her side.

Visitation will be held at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 1 pm to 5 pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home’s Brentwood Chapel on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 10 am with Reverend Greg Corona of Hillside Christian Church West Campus presiding. Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery East.

Joyce was born on February 14, 1951, in Bryan, Texas to Doc Sr and Cecil Henderson. Prior to marriage, Joyce asked Monsignor Joseph Tash, a longtime friend of Joyce, if he would marry her. Knowing what she actually meant, He jokingly told her that it would be impossible for him to do so because he was a priest of the Catholic Church, something they both laughed about for years following. On September 9, 1989, she married Gordon Reid on her mother’s front porch, which was presided by Monsignor Tash. They remained great friends, often making day trips to Oklahoma where they would hit the slot machines. Joyce loved playing slot machines.

She was an incredible cook and would prepare meals that everyone enjoyed. Her compassionate and caring nature was shown through not just her cooking ability but her giving spirit. Joyce enjoyed watching TV shows, especially westerns, and listening to soul music. She was a simple woman, but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t tell you exactly what was on her mind.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, JC, Doc Jr, Major, Alford, and Curtis, sisters, Dorothy, Fannie, Gladys, and Gloria. Those left to cherish her memories are her beloved husband, Gordon, sister Jerelene Smith, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
