Judy "Kay" Warren Sheffield

January 25, 1939 — July 18, 2020

Judy Kay Warren Sheffield

Kay was born January 25, 1939 to Fred Samuel Warren and Ruby Lee (Bobby) Warren. She left this earth on July 18, 2020.

She was born and raised in Amarillo, graduating from Amarillo High School in 1957. Kay lived in Denton and Dallas working for the Presbyterian Church as an administrative assistant. Upon her return to Amarillo, she was employed by Texas Cattle Feeders Association, where she made a difference in the industry and formed lifelong friendships.

Kay volunteered at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), adopting and fostering numerous animals. Her favorite dogs were Huskers, Annie and Sandy. Three of her favorite cats were Snowball, Snowman, and Snuggles. Other favorite pastimes were travelling to Europe, reading mysteries, and playing bingo.

Kay was smart, well-read, thoughtful, funny and faithful.  Her physical health concerns began in the early 2000s and she faced those with more grit, determination and acceptance than most of us could muster.  She was quite a character and will be sorely missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother Annaleta Blackburn Warren; two sisters, Betsy Northrup and Nan Sullivan; and a brother, Bill Lackey.

Kay is survived by her nieces Melinda Northrup, Amy Pairis, Sara Northrup, Gwen Crow, Leta Nixon, Liz Sullivan; nephews Hugh Lackey and Jeff Sullivan.  Also, the following friends, now chosen family, Kelly Clark, Barbara Sanders, and Brenda and Tom Higley.  Special thanks to Bridget Hefner, Amarillo Public Library, for delivering an endless supply of books.

The family is grateful for the numerous staff at Legacy Nursing and Rehabilitation and Interim Hospice Services.

No services are planned. Donations may be made to any charity that supports the rescue and adoption of pets.
