Obituary

Kimberly Kay Meadors, age 66, of Amarillo, suddenly left this life on August 28, 2026, in Amarillo.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Kimberly’s life will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Hillside Christian Church West Campus, 6100 South Soncy. The Rev. Greg Corono will officiate.

Kim was born on June 5, 1960, in Amarillo to her parents, Dwayne Brown and Kay Beth Kendrick McMinn. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1978 and later pursued a career in nursing, graduating from West Texas A&M University with her nursing degree in 1994. Throughout her career, Kimberly worked at both Northwest Texas Healthcare System and BSA, bringing the same determination and passion to caring for others that she brought to nearly everything in her life.

On March 28, 2011, Kim married Kevin Meadors, and together they shared the next fifteen years together.

Kim was a force. She did nothing halfway, and when she loved something—or someone—she loved with her whole heart. She was passionate about her nursing career, her Texas Longhorns, water skiing, flowers and gardening, her beloved dogs, especially her Labs, and, above all else, her family.

Cooking was another of Kim great passions. She was especially talented at grilling and smoking, and whatever came off her grill was sure to be delicious. For Kim, cooking was more than preparing a meal; it was another way of bringing people together and caring for those she loved.

Following the death of her father, Kim naturally stepped into the role of family matriarch. She became the glue that held everyone together—a strong and steady presence who kept her family connected.

Kim was approachable, outgoing, and always ready for a visit. She could strike up a conversation and make others feel comfortable in her presence. In her younger years, her independent and entrepreneurial spirit led her to own Judge Bean Liquor Store in River Road.

And then there was Kim whistle. It was unmistakable—a shrill, powerful whistle that could seemingly be heard for blocks. No one could whistle quite as loudly or for quite as long as Kim. Her sons knew exactly what it meant when they heard it: it was time to get moving.

Kim lived with passion, strength, and unmistakable spirit. She loved loudly, cooked generously, visited freely, and held her family close. Her sudden absence leaves an enormous space in the lives of those who loved her, but so much of Kim remains—in the family she held together, the traditions she created, the stories that will continue to be told, and perhaps, every now and then, in the memory of a whistle that could call everyone home. Kim's final gift to the world was that of organ and tissue donation.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and by a nephew, Austin Carter.

Kim is survived by her husband Kevin; her sons, Chase Pate and wife Laci of Amarillo and Chad Pate of Duncan, Oklahoma; her sisters, Molly McMinn Brasher and Meredith McMinn both of Amarillo; her grandchildren, Elizabeth and Nathan Pate; and her great-grandchildren Zoey Ballard and Eloise Ballard.

The famiy suggests that memorials be made to the American Humane Society.
