Kurt was born on July 17, 1953, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to Richard Dexter and Helen Schoch. He graduated from Borger High School in 1971 and went on to earn his engineering degree from Texas Tech University in 1975.
Kurt’s career in engineering spanned nearly five decades. In 1976, he began working for Phillips, where he remained until his retirement in 2011. Retirement, however, never suited him for long. He soon returned to work for Badger Mid-Stream, later with Energy Transfer, and eventually as a contract project engineer for Altura, where he worked until his passing. Over the years, Kurt was instrumental in building gas plants and refineries across the region and beyond. He was deeply passionate about his profession, constantly eager to learn, and always ready to mentor younger engineers.
While he found great purpose in his work, Kurt’s greatest devotion was to his family. On May 31, 1980, he married the love of his life, Margaret Hein, in Andale, Kansas. Together they built a life full of love and adventure over the next forty-five years, raising four children—Megan, Marc, Scott, and Sarah.
Kurt loved the outdoors and could often be found camping, hunting, or fishing. He was also an active supporter of Boy Scouts, particularly with Troop 87 at St. Thomas, where he shared his love of nature and adventure. His happiest moments were those spent with his family and friends, especially in the great outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Frederick Schoch; his son Marc in 2008; and his best buddie, his faithful four legged companion, Winston.
Kurt is survived by his wife Margaret; his two daughters, Megan Mackenzie and Sarah Hallmark and her husband Travis both of Austin; his son Scott Schoch of Amarillo; his grandson, Alex Mackenzie; and by his furry companions, Dolly and Emmie.
