Larry Wayne Weldon—a devoted husband, father, and proud military veteran—passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026. He lived the majority of his life in the North Texas area before recently moving to Amarillo, Texas. Larry never met a stranger and lived his life with a song in his heart, a guitar in his hand, and a deep, unconditional love for his family. His warmth and joyful spirit left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.

Larry was born on June 5, 1948, in Vernon, Texas, to Shelton Eugene “Gene” and Freida Mignon (Tintsman) Weldon. He graduated from Oklaunion High School in 1966, where he was well-liked by his peers, served as Senior Class President, and excelled in football, basketball, baseball, and track.

Answering the call to serve his country, Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his twelve years of active duty, he served as a computer technician for the Strategic Air Command, with assignments taking him across the U.S. and to Australia. He continued his military career in the Army National Guard, specializing in ground communication networks. Larry loved being hands-on in the field, and his dedication, leadership, and technical expertise earned him the rank of Master Sergeant prior to his retirement in 2008.

Equally accomplished in his civilian career, Larry worked as a highly respected Program and Database Manager. His experience and leadership skills allowed him to function in multiple management roles.

In 1990, Larry married Shirley Anderson in Allen, Texas. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, friendships, and deep family connections. They cherished family gatherings large and small, trips across the U.S., cruises, and a return to Australia—and shared a passion for square dancing. Each year, they eagerly traveled many miles to join dear friends at the annual square dance gatherings in Fun Valley, Colorado.

Larry’s love for the outdoors lasted throughout his life, spending his spare time fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, and enjoying water sports. Yet his greatest passion was music. A gifted singer and guitarist, Larry played in church groups, bands, community jam sessions, and around the family living room. His musical gift became a treasured family legacy passed down to his daughters and grandchildren.

Larry had a dedicated life as a member of the church community. He consistently served the church through his music, song, and his technical skills. He also provided leadership by serving as Chairman of the Administrative Council for over a decade at the Farmersville First United Methodist Church in Farmersville.

Larry treasured his family above all else. He was elated whenever he could attend a child or grandchild’s event, willingly traveling far and wide to cheer them on. He had a welcoming spirit, an infectious sense of humor, and a true gift for making people feel at ease. It is often said that "everyone loved Larry," and anyone who had the privilege of knowing him would wholeheartedly agree.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Freida Weldon.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley; his children: Chad Weldon (Jessica) of Decatur, TX, Kim Packer McKinney of Amarillo, TX, Wendy Adkins (Dave) of Rockwall, TX, Kari Weldon of Chandler, AZ, and Kati Horton (Russ) of Whitewright, TX; his sisters: Rita Dallas (Frank) of Mineral Wells, TX, Dana Weldon of Graham, TX, and Robin Phillipi (Paul) of Graham, TX; sisters-in-law Linda Caldwell of Carrollton, Tx and Theresa Sharp(David) of Irving, Tx; 14 grandchildren: Shelby, Jodie, Paul Shelton, Kassidy, John, Rylan, Peyton, Ashlyn, Mason, Mallory, Steven, Charla, Teri, and Katlyn; as well as several beloved great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

● Visitation: Thursday, August 6th, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 N. Central Expressway, Allen, TX 75013.

● Funeral Service: Friday, August 7th, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church, 206 N. Main St., Farmersville, TX 75442.

● Interment: Monday, August 10th, 2026, at 1:30 PM at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
